বাংলাদেশে হরিপুর প্রথম তেলক্ষেত্র আবিষ্কৃত হয় । ১৯৮৬ সালে বাংলাদেশে সর্বপ্রথম সিলেটের হরিপুরে তেলক্ষেত্র আবিষ্কৃত হয় । ১৯৮৭ সালে এ তেলক্ষেত্রটি থেকে তেল উৎপাদন শুরু করার মধ্য দিয়ে তেলযুগে পদার্পণ করে বাংলাদেশ ।
